In 1944, when the company was acquired by Indian entrepreneur Ajay Singh, who redesigned the brand as SpiceJet. The first flight of SpiceJet was operated from Delhi to Mumbai on 24th May 2005. Kalanidhi Maran acquired 37.7% shares through Sun Group in 2012 after skyrocketing global unrefined crude prices. The shares were sold in January 2015 and control of the company was returned to Ajay Singh.
